Drum Roll

“Life is about rhythm. We vibrate,

our hearts are pumping blood,

we are a rhythm machine,

that’s what we are.” — Mickey Hart

“March to the beat of your own drummer.” — Henry David Thoreau

Pileated Woodpeckers, recognized by their distinctive flaming-red crest, drum on dead trees in a deep, slow, rolling pattern to dig out carpenter ants and other insects.

  1. Marvelous capture! Years ago we used to hear and even see those large woodpeckers around. They are still out there occasionally but not nearly so often as they used to be.
