“There is little in life

so reassuring

as a genuine welcome.”

— Robin Hobb

The Greeter –- One of six big, beautiful, bamboo birds that greet visitors to the Bristol, RI, summer estate of Augustus and Marjorie Van Wickle, this dapper Eastern Bluebird embodies the “Happy Woodlands” spirit of the 33-acre Blithewold manor, gardens and arboretum. Sculpted from natural materials by Myth Makers Donna Dodson and Andy Moerlein, the ephemeral creations are meant to last only 3-5 years before they fade and disappear back into the woodlands • Photos by Jan Logozzo • “Greeter” haiku by Mary O’Connor
