The Great Elephant Migration ~ A herd of 100 elephants is migrating across the U.S. to share its story of conservation and coexistence. Created by a community of 200 artisans in southern India, the life-size sculptures are made of lantara camara, a tough invasive weed that has been encroaching on the elephants’ natural habitat, pushing them into closer proximity to humans. Their 3,500-mile migration across the U.S. began in Newport, RI, shown here at Salve Regina University, before trekking on in coming months to New York City, Miami, the Blackfeet Reservation in Montana, and finally, Los Angeles.
