“Christmas waves a magic wand over this world,
and behold, everything is softer and more beautiful.”
– Norman Vincent Peale
For the past fifteen years, visitors to the Florence Griswold Museum in Old Lyme, Conn., have admired the painted palettes by contemporary artists hung on Miss Florence’s Artist Trees. Alluding to the Lyme Art Colony artists’ tradition of painting on the Griswold house wall and door panels, the nearly 200 palettes by today’s artists fill three fantasy trees as the centerpiece of the museum’s Magic of Christmas celebration.
FGM docent and artist, Mary O’Connor, chose the theme of “Surprise!” for her palette, featuring a mischievous cat hiding in a holiday giftbox to reflect Miss Florence’s love for the many cats residing in her house.
