Distilled Wisdom

“Whisky making

is an act of cooperation

between the blessings of nature

and the wisdom of man.”

– Masataka Taketsuru

Founded in 1757, Kilbeggan Distillery is the oldest licensed Whiskey distillery in Ireland. (a)

A 19th-century waterwheel has been restored to working condition. The distillery can also be powered by a steam engine if needed in times of low water on the river. (b)

Round with very narrow swan necks, copper pot wash stills in use at the Kilbeggan Distillery. (c)

Tall copper columns of Coffey stills provide a more efficient alternative to the pot still way of making whisky by allowing continuous distillation of the liquid rather than requiring distillation in batches.  (d)

Kilbeggan’s standard bottling is a double-distilled blend,  mild with sweet, malty and slightly fruity notes. Tastes of Kilbeggan 8 Single Grain, Kilbeggan Irish Whiskey, Tyrconnell Single Malt and Connemara Peated Single Malt were offered on the tour. 😊(e)
