Magic Cicadas ~ Known for her creative installations using large numbers of insects arranged in ornamental patterns, University of Wisconsin professor of design Jennifer Angus anthropomorphizes insects in the hope that she can create interest in the role that insects play in ecosystems. Her Silver Wings and Golden Scales exhibit may be seen at the Florence Griswold Museum, Old Lyme, Conn. through November 10.

That’s really interesting work! We usually hear thunderous cicada sound in August but this this year there don’t seem to be many around.
I believe some years they aren’t around much based on their 17-year schedule as to when they emerge en masse from hibernation to molt and mate.
