Justice

“Peace is not

the absence of war

but the presence

of justice.”

— Harrison Ford

“For the hanged and beaten, for the shot, drowned and burned, for the tortured, tormented and terrorized, for those abandoned by the rule of law, we will remember.  With hope because hopelessness is the enemy of justice. With courage because peace requires bravery. With persistence because justice is a constant struggle. With faith because we shall overcome.” — National Memorial for Peace & Justice, Montgomery, Alabama

The National Museum for Peace and Justice commemorates more than 4,400 victims of racial terror and lynching in the United States between 1877 and 1950.

Click here to learn more about this national lynching memorial and its initiatives to recognize the victims of lynching by collecting soil from lynching sites and erecting historical markers as part of a national memorial that acknowledges the horrors of racial injustice.
