Hurricane Sandy swept Long Island Sound ashore last fall before leaving with layers of topsoil to reveal these dormant flower bulbs. As Elizabeth Barrett Browning once said, the earth is “crammed with heaven.”
I took this shot right after the devastion of Hurricane Sandy, figuring it was just a little bit of good things to come. Now I’ll have to wait and see what beauty they bring!
Mary, what an amazing picture. And another aspect of the hurricane damage that I never thought about. I can picture trees and hedges and fences damaged but did not think about such powerful swirls of water and what it might expose.
That’s such a great turn of phrase – and a perfect photo to illustrate!

The power of the water was unbelieveable…still discovering things it uprooted and moved. The landscape will have a new face this summer!
