“Our flag does not fly
because the wind moves it…
it flies with the last
breath of each soldier
who died protecting it.”
— Unknown
price of freedom paid
scars carved into limbs and lives
will they ever heal

Mary, this post captures an inspiring look into what Veteran’s Day means. The quote, photo, and your Haiku remind me of the sacrifices borne by our past, present, and future veterans and their families.

They are so great, I don’t think they can ever be repaid.

As the daughter of a US Army soldier, I so appreciate this post, Mary! I’m just sorry I didn’t see it in Reader a lot sooner. It touched my heart more than you know. Thank you. And thank all the men and women who served and died for this great nation! ❤

They deserve so much more thanks than they get!

Absolutely they do. And it’s a shame they don’t get it nowadays. And it all started with the Anti-War protests of the 60’s. None of the soldiers who returned home received a hero’s welcome. Instead, most of them got spat on, flipped off, and called “baby killers.” It’s sickening how people treat these brave servicepeople. And not long ago, people protested their funerals. It just disgusts me. But I’m thankful for people like you who give them the honor and respect they so deserve.
