Built by actor, William Gillette, his 24-room castle set high above the Connecticut River, contains chairs on sliders, secret passages and spy mirrors to observe guests. This “Stone Heap” of a home exemplifies the spirit of fictional detective Sherlock Holmes , whom Gillette portrayed in over 1,300 theatrical performances.
